“Science can amuse and fascinate us all, but it is engineering that changes the world.”
– Isaac Asimov
Growth Mindset
I have a passion for learning and believe that it should be engaging and challenging. Students should have creative and flexible problem-solving skills that will serve them well both in and out of the classroom. Engineers are constantly problem-solving, learning to embrace challenges, and use failure for continual improvement.
Technology
During my years as a teacher I have updated lessons to be more engaging, as well as to incorporate more technology. I use resources from innovators like Kasey Bell and Alice Keeler to create and revise lessons that are more relevant to future-read learners. Engineering using ever-evolving technology, and I encourage students to learn to use the powerful tools they have available.
Creativity
Students have to tap into the creative parts of their brains when problem-solving. Challenges do not have a fixed answer. Programming robots with different codes, but to do the same job makes the experience even more fascinating. Students are sometimes pushed out of their comfort zones with Engineering’s unique challenges.
COLLABORTATION
Collaboration is something I love doing. Not only does it allow for multiple perspectives in the planning process, but it also allows me to hone in on my own lessons when I have lesson ideas. Students should collaborate during the lesson as well so they know that problem-solving and learning is a shared experience.
